Why not leave the car at home? It is straightforward to get to Manesty and around the Lake district via public transport, especially in the summer when a bus will drop you off right at the door. To encouage you, we have even penned ‘A Perfect Weekend at Manesty‘, which is packed full of things to do around Manesty without a car.
Penrith, on the West Coast main line, is well served by high speed trains.
- Direct trains from London take just over three hours.
- Direct trains from Manchester Airport take two hours.
From Penrith you can:
- Take the X50 bus the 17 miles to Keswick.
- Hire a car (Practical car hire or Westmorland Vehicle hire).
From Keswick:
- The 78 ‘Borrowdale Rambler’ bus links Keswick with Grange (3/4 mile from Manesty) all year round.
- Manesty itself is served by the 77A ‘Honister Rambler’ bus from Keswick, between April and October.
- Alternatively, the Derwentwater launch runs from Keswick to Brandlehow, just a mile from Manesty, all year round.
