Our Area & Hot Tub: Eating Well

Eating Well

Nourishing Thoughts:

There is excellent dining in the many pubs, hotels, cafes and restaurants around the district, ideal to complement the home cooking, the advantage of the flexibility of self catering.  Nearest to Manesty there is The Swinside Inn (2.5 miles), The Farmers (3.5) and The Scafell Riverside Bar (2.7) for traditional pub meals and atmosphere; The Borrowdale Hotel (1 mile on foot; 1.5 by road) for excellent bar lunches in their well appointed conservatory and for satisfying 3 to 5 course evening meals; The Borrowdale Gates and The Leathes Head for that special dinner occassion;  Grange itself which boasts two cafes specialising in home baking; High Lodore serving generous teas; and not to forget Prince Charles’ choice, The Flock Inn, in Rosthwaite.

Local Specialties:

Look for Borrowdale trout, Herdwick lamb, locally cured ham, local pheasant and venison, along with traditional Cumbrian recipes.

Food Supplies:

You’ll find in Keswick the specialist foodstore Booths with a policy of sourcing local produce; Brysons, the well established local bakery; the Wednesday market; Thursday’s farmer’s market selling local produce;  Relph’s meats in Rosthwaite selling their own distinctive Herdwick lamb and Thomasson’s of Keswick specialising in local, fresh produce.

Manesty:

We have pick your own blackcurrants in season, herbs outside your kitchen door, local milk from Penrith delivered by High Lodore farm and our own water supply, free of chemicals, filtered and ultra violet light treated.  In fact leave your bottled water at home and as you leave Manesty, take a bottle or two with you.
